La Rencontre stands in the middle of the newly-inaugurated Place Jean-Béliveau. The bottom of the statue represents floes of ice on the St. Lawrence River. The middle section recalls the iconic balconies of Limoilou made out of the leftovers from a former skate factory with the cut-out silhouettes of blades. The deer represent the face-to-face competitions that take place on the ice of the Videotron Centre.

Two deer face each other, one standing on the feet of the other who is upside down, looking at his reflection. This is the monumental sculpture La Rencontre, which was revealed to the public for the first time last Saturday during the opening ceremony of Place Jean-Béliveau in front of the Videotron Centre.
