Sandrine Mainville, 26, won bronze in freestyle swimming at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, and has competed in and won many other major championships. Mainville was in Quebec City last week to tell her inspirational story to young fans. She retired from competitive swimming last summer to focus on her studies in law. The Boucherville native recounted how she bounced back from a serious shoulder injury to qualify for the 2016 Canadian Olympic women’s (4 x 100 m) relay freestyle event. Mainville is one of dozens of athletes offered financial assistance to train and study under the Royal Bank of Canada’s Future Launch program.
