Newsie Note for April 14, 2010

I am a member of the QHS PPO and we are organizing a Flea Market to raise money for different activities in the school, mostly to help pay for all the celebrations at the end of the year (awards, graduation..) The flea market will be held May 15 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. we are looking for donations (no clothing) that may be droped off at QHS 945 Belvedere during the week of the 10. I am the contact person. Could you please put this information in the community events calendar.

The Valcartier Family Centre in Sainte Foy invites Anglophone jobseekers in the Quebec City region to join us for a Career Tea with our special guest Artmérik International. QUEST marks 25th

The Quebec English Speaking Toastmasters (QUEST) club will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a brunch Sunday June 6 at 10 a.m. at the Hotel Chateau Laurier, 1220 Place George V Ouest, Quebec. The price is $30. For the past 25 years, QUEST Toastmasters has helped people from the Anglophone community to improve their communication skills and leadership abilities. Regular meetings are held every Friday at 6:45 a.m. at Mike's restaurant, 2960 Boul. Laurier, Ste-Foy. Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of its members. The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra from Rochester, New York will be presenting a concert at Église Saint-Dominique on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 8:00pm. The program will include Copland's Hoedown from "Rodeo", Stravinksy's "Firebird" Suite, Barber's Adagio for Strings, selections by John Williams, and Gershwin's "An American in aris." It's a great orchestra comprised of over 80 musicians and they're excited for their visit to Quebec City.

Irish Heritage Quebec will hold a flea market from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday May 1, 2010 in McMahon Hall in the basement of St-Patrick's Church, 1145 de Salaberry. We invite one and all to donate. We are interested in books, CDs, LPs, sporting goods, tools, jewellery and pins, small furniture, dishes. kitchenware, purses, suitcases, bags, picture frames, collectibles and any other items that you may think of. We do not accept clothes or large furniture. All proceeds of the sale will be used for Irish Heritage activities. CF-18 exercises at Valcartier

The Valcartier Garrison would like to inform the neighbouring population on the CF-18 firing exercises which will take place through Friday and from April 26 to 30 in the Valcartier Garrison shooting range. The noise of shooting and aircraft movements may be heard during this time. All firing exercises will take place between 12 a.m. to 11 p.m. CF-18 firing exercises are part of regular training for Canada's Air Force fighter pilots stationed at Bagotville. These exercises are generally held over short periods of time totalling approximately 12 weeks per year. The military is offering assurance that all of the necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the exercises run smoothly and to minimize any inconvenience to residents in the surrounding area.
