South Pacific - Coming December 3-6!

The latest Quebec Art Company production, South Pacific, will open in just two weeks, on Thursday December 3, and will run through Sunday December 6.  This classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical won 10 Tony awards after opening on Broadway in 1949, and its imaginative mix of comedy and drama won it a Pulitzer Prize in 1950.  It inspired Hollywood films in 1959 and 2001, and a recent Broadway revival has garnered it another 7 Tony awards.

Based on James Mitchner’s first novel, Tales from the South Pacific, the story unfolds on World War II SeaBee base (the US Navy’s Construction Battalion, thus “CBs”) located on a tropical island in one of the war’s backwaters. The plot revolves around a pair of love stories, both involving military personnel who fall for locals and must eventually face hard choices in resolving their new-found love with their long-held prejudices.

The QAC cast and crew have been working hard for nearly three months in preparation of the upcoming show.  The team of Cheryl Rimmer, Laura Palladino, and Laura McCormick has been providing motivation and inspiration to the actors, dancers and singers, and all the pieces appear to be coming together nicely.  The play will take place at the Holland Elementary School (940, rue Ernest-Gagnon), and further information can be obtained by calling 418 254-6552 or visiting the QAC website.
