Died January 25, 2009 while visiting her family in Calgary, Alberta.

She was born May 3, 1924, in Montreal, the only child of William & Gertrude Grady.

After graduating from Montreal High School she joined the WAC where she was a Corporal.
She married Gerald O'Brien in 1947 and made Ste. Foy her permanent home.

Dorothy worked as a Library Technician at St. Lawrence College until she retired in 1989 but continued as volunteer at the Eastern Quebec School Board until recently.

In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with the Voice of English-speaking Quebec where she was Secretary for 4 years and in 2005 was awarded the Moe Rosenhek Volunteer Award. She was also a past President of the Quebec City Women's Club.

Dorothy was affectionately known as the Book Lady for her many years of work on the Club's annual book fair.
Libraries and books were always close to her heart as was evident by her commitment to the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec, on whose board she served for four terms.

Dorothy is survived by her son Gerald O'Brien of Halifax, N.S., daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Alfred Habermeyer, son and daughter-in-law Tim and Vicci O'Brien, daughter Trudy O'Brien, and 5 grandchildren, Andrea, Neal (Cassandra), and Kasia Habermeyer, and Hailey and Grady O'Brien, all of Calgary.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Arthur in 1981.

A memorial service will be held February 4, 2009 at Centre du Plateau 693 Ave Nery-Tremblay 1:00 pm with Reception to follow.
