Bishop-elect visits Portneuf

It was a lovely surprise to arrive at St. John the Evangelist Church in Portneuf on Sunday, November 9, to greet our Bishop-elect, his Grace the very Reverend Dennis Drainville.

Some of us had not known of this, his first visit to our church. I think we made him aware of how happy we were to have him join us and to receive his special blessings. When his Grace was re-cently in England, he bought a very lovely silver Canterbury Cross.

He blessed it and then presented it to our Canon Graham Jackson in honour of his great contributions to the Anglican Diocese over so many years. The next day, six Day Care sweethearts came from Quebec City as they do once a month to help keep we seniors healthy and happy. Danny was most entertaining explaining to us the many steps of an in vitro fertilization and pregnancy.

Too late of course for any of we seniors! For the first time ever, they brought about 50 red poppies supplied by the ladies of Valcartier for us to buy gladly in memory of our veterans. Volunteers in Quebec made us each a charming little “Trick or Treat” bag with delicious chocolates inside – our thanks to them. As well, our nurse Thérèse gave many of us our flu shots. And gave us two chocolates afterwards for being brave! As usual, a happy day for all.
