Come enjoy the jazzy Christmas sounds of Quebec City’s Virginie Hamel and her ensemble, at the Largo Resto-Club on December 16.

The many coloured lights wrapped around our trees peek through our windows, illuminating the white coat of snow comfortably surrounding our warm, cosy nests. The crackling fire gently warms our bones while we sip away on our favourite hot drinks. The Christmas spirit has arrived early this year, and there is no better time to let you in on what happenings are worth the effort to brave the cold to increase your yuletide cheer!

The Largo Resto-Club (Maison du Jazz), 643 St-Joseph est, is presenting a Jazzy Christmas with Virginie Hamel and her Ensemble on Saturday, December 16 at 8 p.m. This quintet will jazz up your favourite Christmas carols while you sit back, relax and enjoy a meal or a drink. A professional jazz singer since 1999, Hamel has played in many jazz and blues festivals around Quebec and New Brunswick. Café Babylon, 181 St-Vallier est, is presenting the five-man band Strada and its show, Kadou, Noël d’ici et d’ailleurs on Saturday, December 16. These musicians will marry music and tradition, taking you on a journey celebrating Christmas through different countries as far away as Mexico and Ireland, with a detour to the Mediterranean, while certainly not forgetting to pay tribute to our very own heritage. Add costumes and narration to this special event in honour of winter solstice and you have a wonderful family event. There are two shows: 1 and 3 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and free for kids under 12. For tickets, call 523-0700.

Le Choeur de L’isle D’Orleans and the vocal ensemble Baroquo-Negro are presenting Nostalgie de Noel. On December 14 the show will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 31 Des Jardins, and on December 16 at l’Église St-Laurent, Chemin Royal, Île-d’Orléans. The perfect Christmas setting! Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for kids.
