The EQLC gymnasium, where the Quebec City Women’s Club will hold their annual Bookfair, October 25.

If you have passed by the Eastern Québec Learning Centre (EQLC) in recent weeks, you have probably seen the piles of books that are miraculously appearing at the front door. Thanks to the EQLC staff and other dedicated volunteers, the books have been moved to room 114, which is almost ready to burst! Principal Bruce Willett and the Central Québec School Board, avid supporters of the Bookfair, graciously permit the Québec City Women’s Club (QCWC) to store book donations in the unused classroom year-round.

This year’s Bookfair will be held on Saturday, October 25 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the gym at the EQLC. As in past years, the books will be classified into categories (fiction, history, biography, religion/philosophy, how-to, health, cookbooks, hobbies, languages, dictionaries, drama, music, atlases and children’s books). With the exception of certain select volumes, all books will be priced at one dollar each.

Bookfair proceeds are used to provide postsecondary bursaries to local women. The 2008 recipients are Aylin Kocaefe (young woman entering university), Isabelle Tremblay (woman over 25 continuing her university studies) and Stéphanie Rossignol (SLC out-of-town graduate). Bursaries were also awarded to EQLC students Supta Barua, Beeri Nduwimana, Emmanuel Nduwayezu and France Turcotte.

People wanting to donate books can drop them off at the EQLC during school hours. For more information or for book pickup, call Debbie Stowe (418-844-1840) or Lynn O’Carroll. In preparation for the sale, QCWC members will be sorting books in the EQLC gym all week (October 21 to 24). Anybody who would like to help is more than welcome.
