The first ever Quebec City Opera Festival was launched with President Gaston Déry (centre front) and the Honourable Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, Christine St-Pierre (to Déry’s left).

The first Quebec City Opera Festival was a resounding success. Sold out performances, record ticket sales, constant public appreciation for each performance, enthusiastic media reviews, flawless organization, innovative technological achievements—like the Rossignol’s water-flooded orchestra pit—and above all, fine opera and fine performances put the city on the international opera map.
