Simon Jacobs (left), Mayor Régis Labeaume and David Weiser (right) gathered at the Beth Israel Ohev Sholem synagogue to hear Albert Reiss (second from right) speak about his life in hiding as a Jewish child during the Second World War.

Albert Reiss was invited to speak to the congregation of the Beth Israel Ohev Sholem synagogue in Quebec City on June 5. He came to talk about his hidden childhood that had been kept a secret for over 70 years.

Reiss was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1939. His parents had fled Poland in 1929 to escape the antisemitism and pogroms that were threatening the country’s Jewish community.
