A Canadian war bride shares her story

The sprightly 91-year-old Canadian war bride, June Stewart-Burgoyne, came to Quebec on the Queen Mary in 1946.

In the wake of World War II, nearly 50,000 British and European women came to Canada after marrying Canadian servicemen. Most made the journey across the Atlantic on ships like the Queen Mary, a luxurious pre-war cruiseliner that served to carry Allied troops during wartime and to ferry their wives and children overseas post-war.
