Jeffery Hale history on display

Saint-Brigid's-Jeffery Hale held the eighth edition of its annual art exhibit, Révélations earlier this week. Participants range from residents, staff and community members from the Jeff and Saint Brigid's. Painters, soap makers, ceramicists and crafters spent three days in the Coin Soleil room for what could be called a colourful harbinger of spring.

Rebuild the Armoury!

Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume appealed to Prime Minister Stephen Harper earlier this week to rebuild the burned out historic Quebec City Armoury as soon as possible.

Upon hearing the news while in France, Labeaume immediately began his campaign to urgently rebuild the historic structure. 

Walling to leave VEQ for own office next door!

Voice of English-speaking Québec executive director Helen Walling is preparing to take on a new challenge after nine years at the helm of the community organization. She'll wrap up at the end of June, after the May events have been completed.

Tartan Day draws crowd from across the province

News of the great fire at the Manège militaire dampened the joy, but Scots came from across the province to celebrate Tartan Day.

The Kirking of the Tartan was "a moment," according to Milady Gina Farnell.

Solid support for solidarity brunch

Centraide Québec et Chaudière-Appalaches’s annual Grand Brunch de la Solidarité raised funds and spirits last Sunday as four Grands Prix de Solidarité were handed out for this special 400th anniversary edition.

Ted Gunn celebrates 75th birthday

Congratulations to Scotsman Ted Gunn who celebrated his 75th birthday last week. On Saturday, his wife, Louise, and son Ken surprised him with a brand spankin’ new kilt from MacIsaac Kiltmakers in St. Peter’s, NS, which he wore with pride on Tartan Day.

An honour to be among such great people

I had the privilege of accompanying Jacques Choquette, fund-raising co-ordinator at the Valcartier Family Centre, and his wife, Céline Labreque, to Le Grand Brunch de la Solidarité, a fund-raising event for Centraide last Sunday.

Quebec City is an important cultural destination

The trip always begins with the circling of the vehicle looking, of course, for the really obvious stuff. Flat tires, loose parts, muffler hanging off, that kind of thing.

Then of course comes the muttering to oneself, mentally reviewing the “did I forget anything important before I leave” list.
