Anti-racism rally derailed by militants

Riot police maintain a line between anti-racist protesters and La Meute sympathizers, near the La Meute staging area. The event ended peacefully; the groups dispersed and La Meute held their protest with a silent march through the streets around the National Assembly.

It started out innocently enough. Several hundred anti-racism protesters gathered Sunday afternoon at Place d’Youville. A band played, parents pushed children in strollers and participants brandished signs with messages like “No to Hate,” “Don’t Get Trumped” and “Ouverture” (“Openness”).
